Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism numbers have recovered to pre-pandemic levels in the first half of 2022 and the emirate is on target to surpass one million new tourists by the end of the year.
Between January and June 2022, the emirate received over 521,085 foreign and domestic tourists, an increase of more than 21% over the same period the previous year, thanks to new aircraft connections and stylish new designed hotels that have opened.
Radisson Resort Ras Al Khaimah on Marjan Island, the InterContinental Mina Al Arab, and, most recently, the premiere of Mövenpick at Al Marjan Island, have been opened in the emirate, while Jais Sledder, the region’s longest toboggan ride, has had over 54,000 people since its February launch.
Partnerships
To target expanding and increasing source markets, RAKTDA has recently launched a series of strategic collaborations with airlines and key travel operators.
This includes the launch of new direct airline routes, with Ras Al Khaimah slated to get several additional weekly flights from major German cities such as Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Munich. To improve connection even further, RAKTDA is expanding the emirate’s budding cruise industry, with the business target of attracting 50 cruise ship visits every tourist season and over 10,000 passengers over the next five years.
Ras Al Khaimah also announced earlier this year the creation of a multibillion-dollar integrated resort complex with Wynn Resorts. The resort, which is set to open in 2026, will have over 1,000 rooms, retail, meeting and conference facilities, a spa, more than ten restaurants and cafes, numerous entertainment options, and a gaming section.
Events sector
To increase tourism, RAKTDA is promoting the emirate as a prominent sporting and MICE destination in the Gulf, highlighting several significant event agreements acquired in the first half of 2022.
The World Mini-football Federation (WMF) recently chose Ras Al Khaimah to host its annual international football championship.
Sustainable tourism
The ‘Tourism Business Accreditation’ is business program that will give a management framework to assist individual enterprises in growing their sustainability initiatives and assessing their performance. Over 30 establishments are expected to acquire tourist certificates in the program’s first year.
The tourist organization has created the ‘Destination Certification’ program, which serves as a solid foundation for work on sustainable management.
